UK nationals need a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)

With the United Kingdom leaving the European Union, UK nationals are no longer part of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and not eligible for a work permit under this agreement as of January 1, 2021.

Until the Canada-United Kingdom Trade Continuity Agreement is approved UK nationals will need to have a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or meet the requirements of a LMIA-exempt work permit category. The ratification is expected in early 2021.
