Pathways to Explore:

INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY PROGRAM (IMP)

The International Mobility Program (IMP) allows you to work in Canada without needing an LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment).

Job Offer – Do You Need One?

  • Some IMP work permits require a job offer, while others don’t. If you’re applying for an employer-specific work permit, you’ll need an employment offer number and an employer compliance fee receipt from your employer.

  • If you’re after an open work permit, it lets you work for any employer in Canada and doesn’t require a job offer!

An employer-specific work permit could help boost your chances of permanent residence down the road, while an open work permit offers more flexibility but fewer long-term immigration benefits.

TEMPORARY FOREIGN WORKER PROGRAM (TFWP)

The Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) is an employer-driven program. To apply, you need a job offer from a Canadian employer who’s been approved for an LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment).

How It Works: Your employer must prove that they tried to fill the position locally but were unsuccessful. They also need to show that hiring you will either have a neutral or positive impact on Canada’s job market by addressing labour or skill shortages.

Why It Matters: The TFWP helps Canadian employers find the talent they need while ensuring that foreign workers fill gaps in the labour market—so it’s a win for both you and Canada!
